MONTREAL, Aug. 3, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Montréal Mayor Gérald Tremblay and Charles-Mathieu Brunelle, Executive Director of the Space for Life, invite media representatives to attend the Peace Ceremony commemorating the victims of the Hiroshima bombing. The event, which is also open to all Montrealers, will be held at 7 p.m. on August 5, in the Japanese Garden at the Botanical Garden.
During the ceremony, the Peace Bell will be rung at 7:15 p.m. precisely, to mark the exact moment when the atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima, on August 6, 1945, killing tens of thousands of people.
This is one of the few times during the year when the bell is rung, reminding us all not only of the passage of time but also of the need to join hands and work for peace in the world. The Peace Bell will be rung 67 times on August 6, in memory of this tragedy.
