CORNWALL, ON, March 26, 2018 /CNW/ - Municipal workers and their supporters will rally outside Cornwall City Hall on Monday evening, in advance of City Council meeting. The workers, who are represented by CUPE Locals 234, 1792, 3251, 3251-01 and 5734, work for the city in various "inside" and "outside" divisions, as well as at the library, municipal long-term care home Glen Stor Dun Lodge, and as paramedics.
The workers have been without a contract since 2015 (in the case of the library) and 2016 (in the case of all others). They remain frustrated by both the pace of negotiations and the barriers to settlement they face at the bargaining table. The workers are rallying to show support for their bargaining teams as they head into conciliation (talks held with the assistance of a conciliator from the Ministry of Labour) at the end of the week.
