Media Advisory - Counter-Demonstration for Reproductive Autonomy - Response to the March For Life Français
OTTAWA, May 10, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The Feminist Response, the Association pour la défense des droits sociaux de Gatineau (ADDS) and the coalition End March for Life invite all media representation to a counter demonstration to the March For Life in Confederation Park at 1 pm. A series of speeches will be followed by a March, beginning in Confederation Park and ending in front of Parliament Hill. A bus from Montreal will arrive with demonstrators.
This counter demonstration aims to respond to the March For Life, an initiative put into place by conservative organisations opposed to free choice and free information. The Feminist Response, the ADDS and the coalition End March for Life denounce the sexist violence of this attack on reproductive autonomy. These groups are solidary with anyone who will ever or has ever needed an abortion.
Since 7 this morning, a giant banner has been put up on Maisonneuve boulevard in Ottawa, on the Victoria overpass. The message says:
"Anti-choice is not pro life, it's a violent and sexist control over it"
During the march this afternoon, a counter action will take place.
Take into account the numerous obstacles in the way of access to abortion in Canada, especially for those younger than 13, non documented immigrants, queer, trans, with intellectual difficulties, aboriginal, of afro-origine or intersexe. Take into account the numerous forced sterilisations that still take place in the Canadian hospital system.
