OTTAWA, Jan. 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Dairy Farmers of Canada is holding its Policy Conference on February 2nd at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa. The theme for this year's conference is Dairy Farming for Tomorrow, and farmer delegates from all provinces will be in Ottawa to discuss national policy and programs to continue growing and strengthening the Canadian supply-managed dairy industry.
MP Pierre Lemieux, Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture and Agri-Food, will address delegates on behalf of the Government of Canada in the morning.
DFC is pleased to have two keynote speakers this year: Dr. Bruce Muirhead of Waterloo University and Dr. Hugh Campbell of the University of Otago (New Zealand). The two professors have been working together on an analysis of agricultural policy internationally, including the sustainability and resiliency of Canada's supply management system.
A panel of three speakers will discuss communicating about farming in the future, including trends driving consumer expectations. Dr. David Fraser of the University of British Columbia, Dr. Brian Evans of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Christina Crowley of the Young Dairy Leaders Institute will speak about two-way communications between farmers and consumers, as well as trends driving programs related to food safety and biosecurity measures, animal welfare assurance and other on-farm programs.
