Media advisory - Daniels decision to be released by the Supreme Court of Canada on thursday April 14th
OTTAWA, April 13, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The decision of the Supreme Court of Canada in the historic Daniels case will be released tomorrow at 9:45 am. Métis National Council (MNC) President Clément Chartier QC and members of the Board of Governors will be available for interviews following the release of the decision.
Daniels v. Canada will determine whether the federal government has jurisdiction for dealing with the Métis Nation under s. 91(24) of the Constitution Act 1867. The decision of the Supreme Court will have significant implications for the 400,000 Métis Nation citizens who live within the Métis Nation homeland.
The Métis National Council will be holding a Press Conference at 12:00 pm, April 14, at the Charles Lynch Room, Centre Block, Parliament Hill.
The MNC represents the Métis Nation in Canada at the national and international levels. The Métis Nation's homeland includes the 3 Prairie Provinces and extends into the contiguous parts of British Columbia, Ontario, the Northwest Territories and the United States. There are approximately 350,000 – 400,000 Métis Nation citizens in Canada, roughly a quarter of all Aboriginal peoples in the country.
