Media Advisory - Deep River lab workers to stage information picket Feb. 4
DEEP RIVER, ON, Feb. 3, 2015 /CNW/ - Medical laboratory workers at Deep River and District Hospital will hold an information picket on Feb. 4 to protest plans to out-source work that will increase costs to the provincial government and delay results for local doctors.
Under the new scheme, patients will continue to have their blood and other specimens drawn at the local hospital but those specimens will be instead sent outside the community to LifeLabs, one of the world's largest private, for-profit medical laboratories.
The laboratory workers, represented by Local 475 of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), maintain the work should stay inside the local hospital, thereby using available surplus capacity while keeping medical costs down.
