Media advisory - Demonstration and Direct Action in Ottawa to protest the
Federal Government's plan to abandon social housing
OTTAWA, Oct. 25 /CNW Telbec/ -The Front d'action populaire en réaménagement urbain (FRAPRU), a Quebec coalition of poorly housed and homeless people, is organizing a large demonstration and direct action in Ottawa to protest the budgetary choices of the Stephen Harper Conservative Government.
Beginning on April 1st 2011, the Federal Government will invest one billion dollars less per year on social housing as the economic stimulus measures announced in 2009 come to an end. At the same time, the Tories are also preparing to reduce corporate taxes by six billion dollars a year and have also given up to 16 billion dollars to the American company Lockheed Martin for the purchase and maintenance of 65 F-35 fighter jets. This contract was awarded without competition. Military spending in Canada already surpass 21 billion dollars per year.
Recently, FRAPRU blocked the entrance of Lockheed Martin in Montreal and the Canada Revenue Agency offices in Quebec City. What will be the target this time?
