National Sun Awareness Week June 4 - 10, 2012

EDMONTON, June 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Organized as part of the Canadian Dermatology Association's Sun Awareness Week, Edmonton dermatologists will be offering free skin cancer screening on Wednesday June 6, 2012, at Edmonton City Centre mall. Members of the public are invited to come have a free skin check and discuss sun protection.

Who:	Dr. Mariusz Sapijaszko, dermatologist, Canadian Dermatology Association Dr. Muba Taher, dermatologist, Canadian Dermatology Association Dr. Eunice Chow, dermatologist, Canadian Dermatology Association Edmonton melanoma survivors, Erin Welsh (28) and Timothy Wong, will be on site and available for interviews
What:	Skin Cancer Screening (Filming/PHOTO OPP, interviews)
When:	Wednesday June 6, 2012, 11 am to 2 pm
Where:	Edmonton City Centre mall, Street Level, Unit 128 at CBC entrance opposite Winners, 10200 - 102 Ave
Why:	To highlight the need for sun protection and early detection education

Background:

• Every week, 10 Albertans are diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer, a potentially deadly form of the disease
• 80 people die a year from melanoma in Alberta
• Edmonton is Canada's 5^th sunniest city with 2299 hours of sunshine a year, according to Environment Canada
• Skin cancer is highly preventable with good sun protection habits.
