Media Advisory - Earth Hour is this Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
TORONTO, March 27, 2014 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited ("Toronto Hydro") is encouraging customers to power down for Earth Hour this Saturday, March 29, from 8:30 - 9:30 p.m. Earth Hour is a global environmental initiative in partnership with World Wildlife Fund (WWF), which asks individuals, businesses, governments and communities to turn off their lights to show their support for environmentally sustainable action.
Toronto Hydro representatives will be monitoring Toronto's electricity consumption throughout the hour and will be tweeting the city's results. Follow @torontohydro on Twitter for live updates.
During last year's Earth Hour event, Toronto Hydro reported a seven per cent drop in electricity demand which is equivalent to removing about 92,000 homes off Toronto's electricity grid.
Toronto Hydro is reminding customers to celebrate Earth Hour safely. Only turn off non-essential lighting, appliances and devices, and do not leave candles unattended.
