Media Advisory - Emerald Ash Borer damaged trees to be turned on-site into useable lumber
- Partners in Project Green's Material Exchange Program showcases sustainable approach to managing waste from infected ash trees -
TORONTO, July 24, 2014 /CNW/ - On Saturday July 26, 2014 Partners in Project Green, an organization committed to helping businesses in the Pearson Eco-Business Zone manage sustainability programs, will present an on-site demonstration of business collaboration organized by its Material Exchange Program. The demonstration will showcase how organizations are working together to create an ecologically sound solution to manage the waste from infected ash trees.
The challenge: As a result of insect-related damage caused by the Emerald Ash Borer, hundreds of businesses in the GTA must remove infected ash trees. This growing problem is expected to cause the loss and requirement for disposal of nearly all of the City of Toronto's 860,000 ash trees by 2017.
The demonstration: Partners in Project Green brings together Bentall Kennedy, Canada's largest property manager and a real estate investment manager committed to sustainable practices, and Sawmill Sid Lands & Housing, a building and landscaping firm with a specialty in mobile sawmilling. Bentall Kennedy's infected trees will sustainably be converted to useable lumber by Sawmill Sid, on-site and without creation of excess waste or related transportation, emission and storage challenges.
Media are invited to join Partners in Project Green for a demonstration of on-site processing and milling of damaged ash trees by Sawmill Sid at Bentall Kennedy's Etobicoke office location.
