Media Advisory - End Violence Against Women Candlelight Vigil, December 6th, Holland Park, Victoria
VICTORIA, Dec. 5, 2015 /CNW/ - The Public Service Alliance of Canada Victoria Regional Women's Committee is sponsoring a candlelight vigil at Holland Park in Victoria on December 6th, the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada.
The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is a day commemorated in Canada each December 6th, the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, in which armed student Marc Lépine murdered fourteen women and injured ten others in the name of "fighting feminism".
Members of the public will reflect on violence against women, call upon the federal government to announce a national action plan to deal with all forms of violence against women, and collect donations for local women's organizations.
