TORONTO, Jan. 21, 2016 /CNW/ - The Law Society of Upper Canada and Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights (CLAIHR) are hosting a special event on January 26, honouring our colleagues, and calling for the safe and unobstructed practice of law around the world.
The Day of the Endangered Lawyer, marked on January 24th of each year, is a time to reflect on the plight of lawyers around the world who risk harassment, persecution and injury as they work to protect the rights of those who need it most.
The keynote speaker for the event is international human rights lawyer and advocate Georgette Gagnon, former director of human rights for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
Public registration for the event is now closed. Interested media outlets are invited to contact the Law Society (see information below) to arrange for their attendance.
