MONTREAL, June 14, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Montrealers will gather this Thursday to denounce the lack of action by the Canadian government to support Bissan and her baby daughter Sarah who remain stranded in Gaza under Israeli military siege. The rally will take place just outside of Concordia University, the place of Bissan's graduate studies.
For over 5 months, Bissan Eid - a 24 year old Concordia student and new mother - has prevented from leaving Gaza. She was forced to give birth to her daughter, Sarah, in Gaza- far away from her immediate family and from adequate medical facilities. She has also been forced to miss a semester of school, which has delayed the completion of her Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
Despite repeated requests for support, the Canadian government has refused to intervene directly. Supporters will be condemning the government's failure to assist Bissan and Sarah, who require urgent support to return home.
Confirmed Participants:
- Hadi Eid, father of Bissan Eid
- Lorraine Guay, Québecoise Palestine solidarity activist
- Kevin Gould, Professor for the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment
- Omar Riaz, General Coordinator - Concordia Student Union
- Ishani Ghosh, Administrative Coordinator - Centre for Gender Advocacy
