Media Advisory - Former Obama White House adviser Van Jones to headline 2018 Higher Education Summit
TORONTO, Nov. 22, 2018 /CNW/ - Van Jones, a CNN correspondent and former Obama White House adviser, will assess America's political climate when he appears as the keynote speaker at the 2018 Higher Education Summit in Toronto on Monday, Nov. 26.
Other featured speakers at the two-day conference include former Supreme Court of Canada chief justice Beverley McLachlin, Toronto Star national affairs columnist Chantal Hébert, and South African distinguished professor of education Jonathan Jansen.
The Higher Education Summit, run by Colleges Ontario, is one of North America's premier conferences on post-secondary education. This year's conference runs Sunday, Nov. 25, and Monday, Nov. 26, at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel.
About 800 delegates attend the annual conference and Premier's Award gala honouring outstanding Ontario college graduates. Training, Colleges and Universities Minister Merrilee Fullerton will help present the Premier's Awards at this year's Monday evening gala.
The Higher Education Summit agenda also includes in-depth sessions on top issues in post-secondary education, including activism on today's campuses and the legalization of cannabis.
The conference is open to the media. All sessions take place at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel at 123 Queen Street West.

Sunday, Nov. 25
1:15 p.m. – Toronto Star national affairs columnist Chantal Hébert will analyze the latest political developments in Canada.
2:15 p.m. – Prof. Jonathan Jansen, the president of the South African Institute of Race Relations, will share his insights on leadership, transformation and education.
3:45 p.m. – Experts will discuss what the legalization of cannabis means for the years ahead.
Monday, Nov. 26
8:15 a.m. – The Rt. Hon. Beverley McLachlin, the former chief justice of Canada, will examine the issues of diversity that currently face Canadians.
9:15 a.m. – A discussion of activism on campus and how post-secondary institutions address freedom of expression and campus safety.
1:15 p.m. – Van Jones, a CNN correspondent and former White House adviser, assesses the political situation in the U.S.
6:15 p.m. – Premier's Awards gala for outstanding college graduates.
