MEDIA ADVISORY - FROM KANDAHAR TO QUEBEC CITY - VALCARTIER TROOPS TO RETURN

VALCARTIER GARRISON, QC, Sept. 10 /CNW Telbec/ - Media representatives are invited to attend the return flight from Afghanistan of approximately 160 troops based in Valcartier, as they will be reunited with their families in Quebec City this Monday, September 13.

In accordance with current airport regulations, no media representative will be granted access to the secured zones to include the apron. Nevertheless, reporters will have the opportunity to meet the families before the arrival of the troops, then the soldiers themselves upon arrival and following customs clearance. Afterwards, military personnel and their relatives will leave the airport with no transit via Valcartier Garrison.
Media representatives who wish to attend this gathering are requested to leave a message as soon as possible at 418-844-5000 ext 4688. They are also asked to phone the return flights information hotline on the morning of 13 September, in order to take note of any late changes to the flight schedule.
These 160 soldiers worked at Joint Task Force Headquarters in Afghanistan (JTF Afg HQ), where they were deployed since November 2009. Located at Kandahar Airfield, JTF Afg HQ is mainly responsible for coordinating operations, as well as providing logistic and administrative support to JTF Afg personnel. Notice: There will be no interview given by the military personnel during their post-deployment leave period. Requests for interviews will rather be considered once the troops have returned to work in November 2010. This special requirement allows the soldiers to fully enjoy a well deserved rest and to spend as much quality time with their loved ones as possible.
