OTTAWA, Nov. 27, 2015 /CNW/ - On behalf of His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, Her Honour the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will present the insignia of Member of the Order of Canada to Garnet Angeconeb. The ceremony will take place at the Centennial Centre in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, on Monday, November 30, 2015, at 10 a.m. CST. Mr. Angeconeb was appointed on November 19, 2012.

Garnet Angeconeb is a community builder and an advocate for reconciliation. As a journalist and former councillor in Sioux Lookout, he worked to promote his Anishinabek language and culture, and to foster intercultural dialogue between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities. A residential school survivor, he has been involved with both the Aboriginal Healing Foundation and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, sharing his story of courage and resilience, and serving as an inspiration to survivors across the country.
