Media Advisory - Governor General of Canada to Welcome His Excellency Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italian Republic

OTTAWA, June 26, 2017 /CNW/ - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will welcome His Excellency Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italian Republic, to Rideau Hall on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, on the occasion of the President's State visit to Canada.

The detailed itinerary of the events involving the Governor General and President Mattarella can be found below:

10 a.m.
Official Welcoming Ceremony
An official welcoming ceremony, with military honours, will be held at Rideau Hall. The President of the Italian Republic will conduct an inspection of a guard of honour. Both the Governor General and the President will deliver remarks on this occasion.

Ceremonial Tree Planting
The President will plant a tree on the grounds of Rideau Hall to commemorate his State visit to Canada. The tree will be a Buckeye (Aesculus glabra) and will also mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between Canada and Italy.

Over 140 commemorative trees grace the grounds of Rideau Hall, the official residence of the governor general of Canada. They mark visits by members of the Royal Family, heads of State and other dignitaries.

State Dinner
In honour of the President's visit to Canada, Their Excellencies will host a State dinner at Rideau Hall. The Governor General and the President will deliver remarks on this occasion.
