Media Advisory - Governor General to Attend National Ceremony Marking the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain

OTTAWA, Sept. 17, 2015 /CNW/ - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will take part in the national ceremony marking the 75^th anniversary of the Battle of Britain on Sunday, September 20, 2015, at 12:45 p.m., on Parliament Hill.

During the ceremony, His Excellency will inspect the guard of honour. He will also lay a wreath and deliver remarks to pay tribute to the airmen who fought and died during the battle and to acknowledge those who continue to serve in the Royal Canadian Air Force today. 

About the Battle of Britain
Between July and October 1940, more than one hundred Canadians flew in the Battle of Britain and 23 lost their lives. The battle, which involved almost 3 000 Allied airmen, is recognized as a turning point of the Second World War and was the first battle to be won by air power.
