About the Governor General's Literary Awards
The Governor General's Literary Awards, administered by the Canada Council for the Arts, are Canada's oldest and most prestigious awards for English-and French-language Canadian literature. They were established by former Governor General Lord Tweedsmuir (also known as John Buchan, author of The Thirty-Nine Steps.) The first awards honoured books published in 1936, and have since evolved into Canada's pre-eminent national literary prizes. In addition to the monetary award, each laureate receives a bound copy of their winning book.
Members of the media wishing to cover the ceremony are asked to confirm their attendance in advance with the Rideau Hall Press Office, and should arrive at the Princess Anne Entrance no later than 5:45 p.m. on the day of the ceremony.
