Media advisory - Governor General to visit Montreal regiment
MONTREAL, May 13 /CNW Telbec/ - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will visit the Canadian Grenadier Guards (CGG) regiment of Montreal, on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. Members of the media are invited to attend this event that will also have in attendance Richard Pound, CGG's Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel.
This visit is to honour the 150th anniversary of CGG, Canada's oldest infantry regiment. The Governor General is Colonel of the Canadian Grenadier Guards. The regiment sends soldiers every summer to Ottawa to take part in the Ceremonial Guard that performs the "Changing the Guard" on Parliament Hill and provides sentries at Rideau Hall. This will be Her Excellency's first time visiting the troops at their home station in Montreal.
A ceremonial Quarter Guard will mark the Governor General's arrival at CGG, after which Her Excellency will visit the regiment's newly reopened museum, then will address the Regiment.
