Media Advisory - Grand Chiefs of Ontario hold press conference on HST
TORONTO, April 20 /CNW/ - Ontario Regional Chief Angus Toulouse and the Grand Chiefs in Ontario, along with Dr. Fred Lazar, Professor at the Schulich School of Business, York University, will be holding a press conference on April 21, 2010, to announce the release of a report detailing the financial implications the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) will have on the First Nations population in Ontario.
The press conference details are as follows: Date: April 21, 2010 Time: 10:00 am Location: Queen's Park Media Studio Toronto, ON
The report prepared by Dr. Lazar demonstrates the significant negative impact that the HST will have on the First Nations in the province. The decision to harmonize the provincial retail sales tax with the federal goods and services tax was announced in the provincial government's March 2009 budget without consultation with First Nations, and without an economic impact analysis of the financial effects the HST would have on First Nations, or other Ontarians.
