Media Advisory - 'Greening Tourism' conference looks at the best sustainability practices
TORONTO, April 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Centennial College's Culture and Heritage Institute is hosting a special one-day conference on April 10, bringing together tourism and related industry stakeholders to examine and share the best and emerging practices in sustainable tourism.
The global tourism industry is keen to foster widespread knowledge and understanding of sustainable tourism practices, promote the adoption of universal sustainable tourism principles and build demand for sustainable travel. The goal is to protect the world's natural and cultural resources, while ensuring tourism meets its potential as a tool for both conservation and poverty alleviation.
Peter Debrine, Programme Specialist at the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, will deliver the opening address. Other presenters include Mitchell Beer, Chief Company Strategist, Smarter Shift by The Conference Publishers, who will be discussing the profitable aspects of sustainable practices; Liz Driver, Director and Curator at Campbell House Museum, speaking about the impact of wind energy projects on tourism; and Brad Long, Executive Chef and co-host of Food Network Canada's Restaurant Makeover, who will be introducing meals for "locovores."
