Many families will gather to celebrate the holidays with the gift of homeownership.
TORONTO, Dec. 8, 2015 /CNW/ - Just in time for the holidays Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area (Habitat GTA) gives the gift of homeownership to nine hardworking, low-income families. Volunteers, donors, and community partners will gather to celebrate the dedication of these homes at 10:30 a.m. on December 9th, 2015.
While Canadians prepare to celebrate the holidays Habitat GTA hopes to shed light on the serious need for more affordable housing within the GTA. As of September 2015 there were over 93,559 people on the waiting list for social housing. For many of those families the dream of homeownership will never become a reality. Habitat GTA is working to change that one home at a time, and will welcome 27 children to their homes this Wednesday.
For the Fosu family, homeownership has seemed like a distant dream. Cracked windows and mouldy washrooms defined the Fosu family's living situation. "I want my children to grow in a safe and healthy environment. I believe that this opportunity will change my children's lives tremendously… I want them to have a peaceful and sound life," says Vivian Fosu. After nearly a decade of challenges the Fosu family will finally have the safe, decent and affordable home they have always hoped for, just in time for the holidays.
