Media Advisory - Haiti Response Summit - 27 National Societies of the Red
Cross Red Crescent to meet in Montreal

MONTREAL , Feb. 8 /CNW Telbec/ - The Haitian Red Cross, with the support of the Canadian Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent will be hosting a summit on the humanitarian response to Haiti , 9-10 February in Montreal , Quebec . A group of 27 National Societies of the Red Cross from throughout the world will be participating.

The summit is intended for the International Red Cross Movement and Haitian Red Cross to establish a humanitarian plan of action and priorities for the months and years to come.

For the occasion, journalists are invited to take part in two activities:

The opening of the summit, to be held on 9 February at 9:00am , in the presence of:

    
    - The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation;
    - Dr. Michaële Amédée Gédéon, President, Haitian Red Cross;
    - Mr. Conrad Sauvé, Secretary General and CEO, Canadian Red Cross;
    - Mr. Bekele Geleta, Secretary General, International Federation of Red
      Cross Red Crescent Societies.
    

The press conference, to be held on 10 February at 1:30pm , which will conclude the two day summit:

Please note that Red Cross representatives will be available at the event to answer questions from the media. This includes Jean-Pierre Taschereau, who was leading an international Red Cross assessment team in Haiti for the last three weeks.
