Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local is holding a Rally at Hamilton City Hall to commemorate the 110th anniversary of a significant historical event in Hamilton's history – the 1906 HSR/ATU Transit Strike. At the Rally, Hamiltonians will also be uniting against the privatization of Ontario Hydro and key transit lines through Metrolinx.
Background: Before the 1906 HSR/ATU Transit Strike, electricity and transit were owned by a private company which supplied electricity at prices well beyond the reach of most citizens. These circumstances were the direct cause of the riots involving 10,000 Hamiltonians in November of 1906.
Now, history is repeating itself. Premier Wynne's government wants to take us back 110 years and make electricity and transit unaffordable and unsustainable. |
