MONTREAL, March 28, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Lucy Francineth Granados will appear at a second statutory detention review hearing this morning to determine whether she will remain in detention pending deportation. Gabrielle Bouchard, President of the Fédération des femmes du Québec, will be among those offering surety for Lucy's release. Friends and organizations supporting Lucy will hold a solidarity rally outside the hearing.
Lucy's deportation, scheduled for yesterday, was postponed when she was hospitalized for emergency care after collapsing at CBSA offices on Monday. During her hospitalization, Lucy was hand-cuffed and not permitted visits or phone calls to friends or family, greatly compounding her distress. Yesterday evening she was discharged and brought back to Laval Immigration Detention Centre. A new deportation date could be set any day.
Lucy has made Montreal her home for the past nine years and is a community organiser for the rights of other undocumented migrants and temporary workers. She is the sole financial supporter of her three children. She was violently arrested at her home on 20 March and has been detained at Laval Immigration Detention Centre ever since.
