The new 2010 Guidelines for CPR & Emergency Cardiovascular Care will be published in a supplement to Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association at 12:30 a.m. ET, Oct. 18, 2010. The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, co author of the guidelines, will also reveal the results of its new poll which surveyed more than 2000 Canadians across the country on the barriers that impede them from using CPR to revive or resuscitate a person in cardiac arrest.
Embargoed materials and polling results will be available to qualifying media Oct. 12. CPR experts, cardiac arrest survivors/rescuers and CPR instructors will be available for pre-interviews.
Background:
The guidelines provide science-based recommendations for treating cardiovascular emergencies, particularly sudden cardiac arrest in adults, children, infants and newborns.
Every five years, hundreds of leading resuscitation experts worldwide review all new and existing research and the guidelines are revised accordingly.
CPR training has been recommended for healthcare professionals and for the general public for more than 40 years.
