Media Advisory - Here's Proof: Google Map demonstrates National Canadian Film Day 150 is world's largest film festival. EVER.
FREDERICTON, April 10, 2017 /CNW/ - National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150) promises to be the world's largest film festival – ever. And now there's proof. Today, REEL CANADA, the not-for-profit organization hosting NCFD 150 in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday, released a Google Map, showing all screenings taking place in Canada and across the world. Through this map, Canadians can see that in Kazakhstan, the Embassy of Canada will be screening The Rocket, and in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong International Film Festival will be playing Window Horses. Canadians can also use the map to find a National Canadian Film Day screening in their community.
In New Brunswick alone there are more than 60 screenings taking place across the province. A few interesting local events include:
- The Picaroons Roundhouse, a micro brewery in Fredericton, will screen Strange Brew at 7:00 p.m. Picaroons is one of six breweries across Canada screening this classic Canadian comedy, which is itself set in a brewery.
- Presented in partnership with the New Brunswick Filmmakers Cooperative, Tilley Hall at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) will screen Guibord s'en va-t-en guerre (My Internship in Canada) at 7:30 p.m. The film is written and director by Oscar nominee Philippe Falardeau, and was nominated for three Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Picture. The film also earned the Special Jury Citation for Best Canadian Feature Film at the Toronto International Film Festival.
