Media Advisory - Here's Proof: Google Map demonstrates National Canadian Film Day 150 is world's largest film festival. EVER.
REGINA, April 10, 2017 /CNW/ - National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150) promises to be the world's largest film festival – ever. And now there's proof. Today, REEL CANADA, the not-for-profit organization hosting NCFD 150 in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday, released a Google Map, showing all screenings taking place in Canada and across the world. Through this map, Canadians can see that in Kazakhstan, the Embassy of Canada will be screening The Rocket, and in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong International Film Festival will be playing Window Horses. Canadians can also use the map to find a National Canadian Film Day screening in their community.
In Saskatchewan alone there are more than 45 screenings taking place across the province. A few interesting local events include:
- The tenth anniversary screening of the lyrical drama River will take place at the Regina Public Library Film Theatre at 7:00 p.m., featuring a post-screening Q&A with director Mark Wihak. A Master Class in micro-budget filmmaking with members of the Saskatchewan Film community will be part of the evening's festivities, as will refreshments.
- In partnership with Paved Arts, the Saskatoon Public Library will be screening Reel Injun at 7:00 p.m. The film is an enlightening account of how Indigenous people have been misrepresented historically in film. This will be preceded by a short film, A Poetic Call to Action.
- Friends of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum present Bugs on the Menu at 7pm, followed by a Q&A with director Ian Toews. The film follows the Goldin brothers in their entrepreneurial efforts to raise cricket protein for human consumption.
