CALGARY, April 10, 2017 /CNW/ - National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150) promises to be the world's largest film festival – ever. And now there's proof. Today, REEL CANADA, the not-for-profit organization hosting NCFD 150 in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday, released a Google Map, showing all screenings taking place in Canada and across the world. Through this map, Canadians can see that in Kazakhstan, the Embassy of Canada will be screening The Rocket, and in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong International Film Festival will be playing Window Horses. Canadians can also use the map to find a National Canadian Film Day screening in their community.
In Alberta alone there are more than 150 screenings taking place across the province. A few interesting local events include:
- Screening of comedy, horror, sci-fi, fantasy film, Pontypool at the Globe Cinema in Calgary at 9:00 p.m., presented by the Calgary Underground Festival. Special guests at this screening will include director Bruce McDonald, and cast member Stephen McHattie.
- The Town of Hanna will be screening Why Shoot the Teacher? at the Hanna Community Centre at 7:00 p.m. Why Shoot the Teacher?, the winner of the Golden Reel Award for highest grossing Canadian film in 1977, was filmed in the town.
