OTTAWA, May 31, 2013 /CNW/ - Hydro Ottawa is providing a rare glimpse inside one of Canada's oldest operating run-of-the-river hydroelectric generating stations this weekend as part of Doors Open Ottawa.
Doors Open Ottawa is brought to the community by the City of Ottawa and gives visitors the chance to explore some of the city's most prestigious buildings and facilities, some of which are rarely accessible to the public.
Media are invited to an exclusive preview of this unique heritage site in the heart of the Capital:
WHAT: | Tour of Chaudière Falls Generating Station No. 2 |
WHEN : | Friday, May 31, 2013, 1:00 p.m. |

Hydro Ottawa's Generating Station No. 2 was built in 1891 by industrialist E.H. Bronson and was originally owned and operated by the Ottawa Electric Company. In 2001, the station was completely rebuilt. All of the generators were rewound, the turbines were replaced, the channels and dam structures were rehabilitated and the station was completely automated. It is a heritage-designated building with all elements of the station preserved so the equipment looks as it did 100 years ago.
