VALCARTIER GARRISON, QC, June 21, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Media representatives are invited to attend the homecoming of the first group of soldiers from Afghanistan as they reunite with their families in Québec City this Saturday. There are approximately 90 CF members in this group.
When: | Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 1:45 pm (flight is expected at 2:00 pm) |
Where: | Jean-Lesage International Airport (Québec City) |
In accordance with current airport regulations, media representatives will not have access to the secure zones or the tarmac. However, journalists will be allowed to talk to the families before the soldiers' arrival and to the soldiers themselves after they clear customs.
This group is the first from a Canadian Contribution Training Mission - Afghanistan (CCTM-A) contingent, which is made up of approximately 850 CF members from Quebec, who will be returning home by mid-July. Since October 2012, the soldiers have provided support for the training and professional development of Afghanistan's national security forces as part of Operation ATTENTION (Roto 2).
Members of the media who wish to attend the homecoming on June 22 are asked to contact 5 CMBG Public Affairs as soon as possible. To learn more about the second rotation of Operation ATTENTION, go to http://www.cjoc-coic.forces.gc.ca/exp/attention/acc-roto2-eng.asp.
Note: No interviews will be granted by the troops during their post-deployment leave. Requests for interviews will be considered after the members return to work around the month of September 2013. This approach is intended to allow the troops to fully enjoy some well-deserved rest and to spend as much time as possible with their loved ones.
