TORONTO, Sept. 13, 2017 /CNW/ - They may be small, but their importance is indeed huge. While most of us don't realize it, bees, and the role they play in our ecosystems, are critical to our daily lives. The Honey Harvest Festival, taking place this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16 and 17, at Kortright Centre for Conservation will celebrate the significance of bees and teach visitors how to help preserve and protect them in their own backyards.
As part of the festival, the newly renovated "Bee Space" will be unveiled and a wide array of fun activities are planned, including live music, great food, and, of course, honey!
It's been suggested that bees are responsible for pollinating more than 400 types of fruits and vegetables – contributing to the production of one third of the food we eat in North America.
Toronto and Region Conservation officials will be on hand to officially recognize the generous financial contribution of the Ontario Trillium Foundation to help revitalize bee education programming at the Kortright Centre. Bees are extremely important and the bee programs at Kortright have been instrumental in helping the public recognize the plight of bees and to become advocates for bees and bee habitat.
