Media Advisory - Info pickets by CarePartners' workers continue Mar. 19 in St. Catharines
ST. CATHARINES, ON, March 18, 2015 /CNW/ - Workers for CarePartners in Niagara region and Norfolk county will continue their information pickets at two locations in St. Catharines on Mar. 19 as they increase pressure on management to negotiate a first contract.
"By taking our message directly to the public we are making it perfectly clear to CarePartner management that nothing short of a fair first contract will satisfy our members," said Chris Frail, chair of the bargaining team for OPSEU local 294 which represents about 140 full- and part-time employees. "We are very grateful that public support is on our side."
The union has been attempting to negotiate a first contract for 20 months with no success. Workers are seeking to set an hourly wage rate, set sick time allowances (they currently have none) and set basic health and safety provisions. Management continues to deny their employees these basic rights.
CarePartners delivers nursing services including oncology, dialysis, pediatric, wound and diabetic care in the community.
