MONTREAL, April 13, 2012 /CNW/ - Press Registration is now open for the forthcoming International Polar Year Conference: From Knowledge to Action to be held from 22-27 April 2012, Montréal, Canada.
Each day of the conference will feature a program of keynote speakers, plenary panel discussions, parallel science sessions, as well as dedicated poster sessions. The conference draws international attention on important themes related to topics of polar change, global linkages, communities and health, ecosystem services, infrastructure, resources and security. Other sessions will provide the opportunity to present and discuss research findings, policy implications and the complex relationship between our polar knowledge and our actions in the polar regions.
A full-service Media Centre will be available at the Conference and onsite media will have access to press conferences, scrums and one-on-one interviews with leading polar scientists, political leaders, and other polar luminaries. You will also have opportunities to network and socialize during side events including the Polar Film Festival, a media tour as well as public tours of the Canadian Coast Guard vessel the CCGS Amundsen, and various receptions being held by participating organizations.
The IPY 2012 Conference will bring together over 2,500 Arctic and Antarctic researchers, policy-and decision-makers, and a broad range of interested parties from academia, industry, non-government, education and circumpolar communities including indigenous peoples. The From Knowledge to Action Conference will contribute to the translation of new polar scientific findings into a meaningful basis for action that will influence global decisions, policies and outcomes over the coming years.
The Conference will open at the Palais des congrès in Montréal with a welcome reception and icebreaker on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22. The official opening ceremony will be held on the morning of Monday, April 23, 2012.
Complimentary registration to the conference will be given to all members of the news media who are awarded accreditation.
