Media Advisory - Is a tired doctor a safe doctor? - Medical experts to debate at international conference in Toronto on Oct. 24, 2014 Français
TORONTO, Oct. 20, 2014 /CNW/ - Doctors and medical experts from across Canada will debate the question "Is a tired doctor a safe doctor?" at a trailblazing public panel in Toronto, Ont., on Friday, October 24, 2014.
Hosted by Dr. Brian Goldman, the panel is part of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada's International Conference on Residency Education (ICRE).
Traditionally, Canadian doctors and resident-physicians have worked long hours, a practice that's come under question in recent years over concerns about patient safety. The October 24th panel will debate whether this is true and how – if at all – Canada's health system can adapt.
The panellists will be Dr. Najma Ahmed, a trauma surgeon at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Ont; Dr. Kaif Pardhan, an emergency medicine resident-physician at the University of Toronto; Dr. Christopher Parshuram, a staff physician at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto; and Ronald A. Pink, QC, an attorney who in 2012 helped challenge the hours worked by resident-physicians in Halifax, NS.
The event is open to the public and media. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at www.royalcollege.ca/icre.
