CALGARY, Sept. 11, 2013 /CNW/ - The Scotiabank Calgary Marathon is turning 50 on June 1, 2014 and a mighty celebration is a must for this milestone anniversary. Organizers will unveil groovy plans for the Golden Anniversary on September 18th from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. (announcement at 12:15 p.m. sharp) in the East Village, winner of the Neighbourhood Spirit Challenge two years in a row. The top fundraisers of the 2013 Scotiabank Charity Challenge will be announced. Collectively, the 2013 Scotiabank Charity Challenge raised $1.1 million dollars for 76 charities and to date the Scotiabank Charity Challenge has raised $2.575 million dollars for Alberta charities since its inception in 2010.
WHAT: Scotiabank Calgary Marathon 50th Anniversary Launch
WHEN: Wednesday, September 18, 11:45 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Announcement at 12:15 p.m. Opportunity for interviews or scrum immediately following announcement.
WHERE: East Village Plaza next to the Simmons Building (or East Village Experience Centre if it is raining) on Riverfront Ave SE, Calgary

WHAT TO EXPECT: A retro throwback party with your favourite tunes and looks from the past 5 decades. "A Decades Dance-Off" by dancers from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's, you decide which decade did it best. Food trucks, prizes for best vintage costumes, t-shirt giveaways and much, much more! A formal media announcement, opportunity for interviews with organizers, runners and charity winners.

A VIP Scotiabank Tent will be set up near the podium and food and beverages will be served. Parking for media is available in the parking lot of the EVE or on the street.
