BRANTFORD, ON, Sept. 16 /CNW/ - The Canadian Director of the United Steelworkers and the President of the Ontario Federation of Labour will join the third consecutive day of solidarity actions in Brantford in support of workers on strike for two years.
WHO: Ken Neumann, United Steelworkers' National Director for Canada; Sid Ryan, Ontario Federation of Labour President; Chris Charlton, NDP MPP WHAT: Third day of action in support of strikers on picket line for two years. WHERE: Engineered Coated Products, 369 Elgin Street, Brantford. WHEN: 9 a.m., Friday, September 17, 2010.
Ken Neumann, the Steelworkers' National Director for Canada, OFL President Sid Ryan, and New Democratic MPP Chris Charlton will join a rally beginning at 9 a.m. Friday outside the Engineered Coated Products plant at 369 Elgin Street, Brantford.
More than 80 workers, members of the United Steelworkers, have been on strike for two years due to ECP's anti-union agenda. ECP has demanded massive concessions in wages and benefits and rather than negotiate has hired scabs and a private security force in order to operate during the strike.
Ontario's labour movement is mobilizing in support of the ECP workers and citing the two-year strike as a clarion call for the reinstatement of anti-scab legislation in the province.
