Greater Montreal business community gears up for the Ride's $1.25 million objective
MONTREAL, May 14, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - On May 16th, senior executives from 100 of Montreal's leading companies will come together to launch the 2012 Ride for Diabetes Research. The purpose of the launch is to create awareness and motivate participants to raise funds for the annual challenge to be held on September 28th at Place Ville Marie Plaza.
The Ride for Diabetes research is a unique, high-energy event. The growth of the event reflects the generosity and commitment of Montreal's business community. Over 3500 participants are expected to take part in the corporate stationary bike challenge. This year's objective is to raise $1.25 million for diabetes research.
To take part in the Ride, employees from participating companies form teams of five members who ride for a total of 40 minutes (8 minutes per rider) and compete to see who can clock the most kilometres and raise the most money.
Over 3 million Canadians live with diabetes and 300,000 of them have type 1 diabetes, the most severe form of the disease. Type 1 diabetes is growing three to five percent each year, with the most significant increase in children from five to nine.
