TORONTO, May 19, 2016 /CNW/ - Members of the legal profession from across Ontario whose careers represent the highest level of achievement and commitment to serving society and the profession will receive awards from the Law Society of Upper Canada on May 25, 2016.
The Law Society Medal, the William J. Simpson Distinguished Paralegal Award, the Lincoln Alexander Award, the Laura Legge Award, and the inaugural J. Shirley Denison Award will be presented by Treasurer Janet E. Minor, who will be hosting the annual Law Society Awards ceremony.
The Law Society Medal is given to outstanding lawyers and paralegals in Ontario in recognition of exceptional service, whether in a particular area of practice, in the academic sphere, or in some other professional capacity.
This year's Law Society Medal recipients are: Jennifer E. Babe, Ronda Bessner, Ronald Caza, Orlando Da Silva, David Estrin, Linda Gehrke, Kathy Laird, Professor Errol Mendes, O.Ont., Peter Rosenthal and Professor Frederick Zemans.
The Law Society Distinguished Paralegal Award recognizes a paralegal who has demonstrated one or more outstanding attributes. This year's recipient is John Tzanis.
The Lincoln Alexander Award is presented to an Ontario lawyer who has demonstrated a commitment to the public and its well-being through community service. This year's recipient is Mary Lou Dingle, Q.C.
The Laura Legge Award is presented is presented to a woman lawyer in Ontario who has exemplified leadership within the profession. This year's recipient is Lisa Borsook.
The inaugural J. Shirley Denison Award was established in April 2015 in honour of former Treasurer John Shirley Denison, to be bestowed annually to a lawyer or paralegal in recognition of significant contributions to access to justice and poverty issues. The very first recipient of this new award is Jenny Vuay Quan.
