Media Advisory - LCBO workers in Ottawa and Kingston to mark UN human rights day Dec. 10 with information pickets
OTTAWA, Dec. 10, 2012 /CNW/ - LCBO employees in Ottawa and Kingston will mark the 64th anniversary of the United Nation's Universal Declaration of Human Rights by staging information pickets in the two cities calling on the Crown corporation to provide equal pay for equal work.
Article 23.2 of the UN declaration states: "Everyone, without discrimination, has the right to equal pay for equal work."
The LCBO, however, uses a multi-tiered wage structure that discriminates against many of its employees who do the exact same work as their colleagues but who are classified differently.
LCBO workers are represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. Their contract with the LCBO expires on Mar. 31, 2013 and the union has pledged to make equal pay for equal work a priority at the bargaining table.
