MEDIA ADVISORY - LEADING THE FIGHT AGAINST DIABETES DURING DIABETES AWARENESS
MONTH - ONE TAG AT A TIME
TORONTO, Nov. 11 /CNW/ - The Lions Club is continuing their quest to serve those living with diabetes with their second annual 'Lions Share Tag Day' event. On Saturday, November 13, 2010, Lions Club members will make rounds at 120 different retail locations across Canada and exchange tags, which indicate November is "Diabetes Awareness Month," for donations. All proceeds from the 'Lions Share Tag Day' will go towards supporting the Canadian Diabetes Association.
"Our goal is to bring a greater awareness of diabetes to the general public," said Lion Larry Sales, Past District Governor and Secretary, National Liaison Committee for the Lions Club. "Last year was our first annual 'Lions Share Tag Day' and included a small sample of Lions Clubs participation. We were able to raise $16,000 in only five hours. Now, with the participation of Lions Clubs across the country, our hope is to raise $50,000 to $80,000 this year."

The Lions Club raises approximately $400,000 a year for the Canadian Diabetes Association to help support funding for leading-edge research, services and essential programs to help people living with diabetes. Sales, who also lives with type 2 diabetes, says the Lions Club serves the Canadian Diabetes Association so that someday their efforts will help find a cure.
