TORONTO, Feb. 11, 2013 /CNW/ - The Hon. David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, announces the following constitutionally required events in the change of government on Monday 11 February 2013.
2:40 PM: | The Lieutenant Governor will receive the formal resignation of the Hon. Dalton McGuinty, MPP, as 24th Premier of Ontario. His resignation also includes members of the current Ministers and the Executive Council of Ontario (i.e. the Cabinet). | ||
2:45 PM: | The Lieutenant Governor will receive the Premier-designate, Kathleen Wynne, who will advise His Honour of her recommendations for a new Executive Council and Ministers. Ms. Wynne will then take the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Member of the Executive Council in His Honour's office, and following, will be prepared to be sworn in as Premier. | ||
3:00 PM: | The Lieutenant Governor will preside at the swearing-in ceremony of the Hon. Kathleen Wynne as 25th Premier of Ontario and those recommended as Ministers and members of the Executive Council in the Chamber of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. | ||
After the oaths have been sworn, the Lieutenant Governor will confer the Great Seal of Ontario to the responsible Minister as a symbol of authority of the Executive Council to govern. | |||
Following the ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor will host a reception for invited guests.
Attached is a sample Premier's Recommendation Document advising appointments to the Executive Council, the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Member of the Executive Council, and the Oath of Office, which will be taken at the swearing-in ceremony.
