Media Advisory - Lieutenant Governor to receive first poppy, launch annual Ontario Poppy Campaign
TORONTO, Oct. 22, 2012 /CNW/ - On Tuesday, 23 October, the Honourable David C. Onley will be presented the first poppy of the 2012 Ontario Poppy Campaign by Mr. Bruce Julian, First Vice President of the Ontario Provincial Command of the Royal Canadian Legion. This presentation marks the launch of this year's Poppy Campaign in Ontario, which aims to raise awareness of the service and sacrifices of women and men in the Canadian Forces.
The poppy is a national and Commonwealth symbol of remembrance for military members that have served in times of war and peace. Since 1921, the poppy has stood as a symbol of remembrance, with over 19 million now being distributed across Canada each year.
