Passenger rail service has played an important role in Canada and Montreal's economic wellness and prosperity. And as the 150th anniversary of our country approaches, in 2017, many Canadians want passenger rail to remain a key component for a sustainable socio-economic development to our country.
Over the past five (5) years, VIA Rail has made significant improvements to its operations and management through the Government of Canada's almost-one billion dollar investment, VIA Rail's latest challenge is to redefine its role in light of the current financial context and that of key issues.
This new era of passenger rail means that VIA Rail will have to transform itself into a modern and open company, integrated into Montreal's ecosystem of passenger transportation.
The President and CEO of VIA Rail will explain how the Crown Corporation intends to pursue this goal in the coming years.
