Media Advisory - Mayor John Tory and Toronto Foundation CEO Sharon Avery jointly announce new project bridging philanthropy and city building
TORONTO, Jan. 16, 2018 /CNW/ - This Friday, 100 community and civic leaders and philanthropists will gather for the launch of the Toronto Neighbourhood Resilience Project. The launch of this collaborative initiative between the City of Toronto and Toronto Foundation will also include the announcement of a new campaign to catalyze the next generation of philanthropy.
With Toronto on track to grow by 2.9 million, or 42.3%, to reach 9.6 million by 2041, the city's resilience is at a critical point. Chronic stresses like the growing housing crisis and the widening income gap inhibit Toronto's ability to respond to large-scale emergencies, putting our most vulnerable people at the highest risk. This new two-year program is an innovative multi-stakeholder response.
