TO2015 and Athletics Canada to host joint media conference call with Andre De Grasse
TORONTO, June 17, 2015 /CNW/ - The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee (TO2015) and Athletics Canada are holding a joint media conference call with Canada's fastest man, sprinter Andre De Grasse of Markham, ON, on Thursday, June 18 at 2 p.m. (ET). This will be the only time De Grasse is available before the 2015 Canadian Track & Field Championships taking place in Edmonton from July 2 to 5.
Last weekend at the NCAA Championships, De Grasse won both the 100-metre and 200-metre events. The sprinter has set new Canadian records in both the indoor and outdoor 200 metres this season. He is also the first Canadian sprinter to dip below 10 seconds in the 100 metres since Bruny Surin achieved the feat in 1999.
De Grasse's times from the NCAA Championships of 9.75 (wind-aided) in the 100 metres and 19.58 (wind-aided) in the 200 metres are the fastest ever by a Canadian athlete in all conditions. He has already achieved the standard for the IAAF World Championships, being held this August in Beijing and is expected to be named to the 2015 Pan Am Games Canadian team.
