Media Advisory - Metrolinx Withholding Information From Transportation Minister
Glen Murray Unable to Answer Resident Concerns About Noise Walls Since July
TORONTO, Feb. 6, 2014 /CNW/ -
Who: | Metrolinx, an agency of the Government of Ontario, and Liberal Transportation Minister Glen Murray. |
What: | Repeated requests for information from the Minister to Metrolinx about the need for 10-kilometres of massive concrete noise walls stretching across West Toronto have gone unanswered since July, 2013. |
Why: | In two meetings (July & October) and in subsequent e-mails, Transportation Minister Glen Murray has indicated that he cannot answer the concerns of residents about a plan to build 10-kilometres of 16-foot high concrete and plexiglass noise walls along the Georgetown South rail corridor until Metrolinx provides additional information to him. The lengthy delay is creating the impression that the government has lost control of the provincial transit authority. With the project slated to go to tender this month, there is a growing fear that Metrolinx will simply plow ahead with the construction of barriers that will provide a massive canvas for graffiti in their neighbourhood. |
