Media Advisory - Michael Garron Hospital Breaks Ground On Largest Redevelopment Project In Its History
$100-million Heart of the East Campaign will transform care for one of Canada's most diverse communities
TORONTO, April 23, 2018 /CNW/ - On April 25, Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), Toronto East Health Network will mark a major milestone in Toronto's health-care history by breaking ground on the revitalization of the Hospital's 89-year-old campus and launching the historic $100-million The Heart of the East Campaign.
The new eight-storey Patient Care Centre and campus renewal will transform care for some of the most diverse and high-needs communities in Toronto. Over 40 per cent of people living in the area served by the Hospital are newcomers to Canada, and a quarter are low-income. The project will see the replacement of 50 per cent of the hospital while continuing to deliver 100 per cent of health-care services throughout construction. The $411-million design, build, and finance contract was awarded to EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare in January 2018.
