Media Advisory - Milestone Anniversary at World's Largest Cyclotron

VANCOUVER, Feb. 5, 2016 /CNW/ - This coming Tuesday morning, TRIUMF will commemorate the 40^th anniversary of commissioning of the world's largest cyclotron – a particle accelerator driving cutting-edge science that has a tangible impact on our daily lives.

The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, and Terry Beech, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Science, will participate in the official celebration. 

Prior to the announcement, Minister Duncan will go on a private tour (open to registered media) to see key features of the TRIUMF facility. She will then offer remarks during a celebration recognizing the past forty years of discovery and innovation in addition to the many that lie ahead.

Media are invited to attend both the tour and the celebration program.

Media are asked to confirm their attendance no later than 7 a.m. on February 9, 2016. All media must check-in at the media registration area upon arrival with photo I.D. and credentials.

Media wishing to join the TRIUMF tour with the Minister are asked to arrive at TRIUMF no later than 9:00 a.m. Those arriving later will not be able to join the tour.

As TRIUMF is a working physics laboratory, there are some safety considerations to be aware of when on site. Prior to arriving at TRIUMF, all media wishing to join the tour must review the TRIUMF Guest Safety Information found here: http://www.triumf.ca/sites/default/files/20160203_TRIUMF%20Guest%20Safety%20Information_1.pdf

While no personnel protective equipment will be required on the tour route, closed toe shoes with a low heel are required footwear. As the tour route involves walking over grated floors and stairs, it is highly recommended that guests wear long pants.
